How to Search for and Find a Student
Now that you have opened the Student Employment System, the first step you will want to take is to search for the student's record.
Step 1
You will be using the Search panel (see the names of the panels on the tabs). Click in the box next to Find, and enter the student's identifying number. There are three options; you can use any one of them. Click on the radio button next to the option you want to use.
- ID: This is the seven-digit PeopleSoft employee/student ID; it is NOT the student's six-digit ID number.
- NetID: This is the student's Cornell NetID (for example, zab19). We encourage you to start gathering this piece of information on your students. You can find a student's NetID by using the Eudora directory services.
- SSN: This is the student's real Social Security Number, which you enter without hyphens. Dummy SSNs are not accepted by PeopleSoft, so you can't use this option if the student's SSN starts with 999.
Step 2
Once you have clicked on the option you want to use and entered the corresponding information, click on the SEARCH button. The Student Employment System will then go to the PeopleSoft system and see if a record exists for that student.
Step 2.a
If you receive this message, the first thing you should check is that you entered the information correctly, and that the correct radio button is clicked. If the information looks correct to you, try searching with a different option; for example, if the system did not find the record based on SSN, try using the NetID.
If you still can't find the record and you are sure the person is a current student, call the Student Employment Office (255-9051).
Step 2.b
If the search is successful, the system will display the person's name across the top of the panel, and the Eligibility Panel will appear on the right.
Click next to see a successful find.
